Aperture is the opening of the lens diaphragm which adjusts the focal point and amount of light that enters the camera, aperture is an extremely important tool since it is able to transform an image so much.

As you can see in the first image the girl is more focused , and close up whereas the background is very blurry and seems distant, this is called Shallow Depth Of Field. This image is captured with a higher aperture setting (5.6) and to make the photo so clear and frozen it had a higher shutter speed (1/500). I achieved the close up look by adjust my focal length (42mm) to be close and my distance to be closer. The ISO was at 400.
The second photo was overall clear and not one particular area was more focused than others, this is called Greater Depth Of Field. This image had a lower aperture setting.
(4.5) a lower shutter speed (1/400) and the focal length was much lower (32mm). The ISO was set at 200 The third image is Over Exposed because of the aperture of f/4, this gives the camera too much time to absorb light whereas in the 4th photo it is Under Exposed since the aperture is at f/22 meaning it doesn't have enough time to absorb light. |
